Here you can find some of the most common questions from our clients.
Reality is that in commercial soap making, big companies produce a mixture of chemicals made of detergents and synthetic ingredients to produce “soap” which overtime ages your skin & dehydrates, definitely not suitable for sensitive skin, can increase your chances of having allergic reactions (eczema, itchiness, psoriasis, etc), not to mention that will strip off your skin moisture & natural oils.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body and absorbs absolutely everything you apply on it. This is why a natural skin care routine without the addition of harsh, toxic chemicals and synthetic colors is the best option for your skin.
Glycerin is naturally created during the soap making process. It is a natural skin emollient (skin softener & humectant) that attracts water from the surrounding air.
All our handmade soaps have glycerin and it has excellent nourishing qualities for maintaining moisture in the skin throughout the day.
However, it is usually not the case with commercial soaps, as the glycerin has been removed to be used as a valuable by-product for expensive body care, hygiene and pharmaceutical products. These “beauty bars” with no glycerine nor nourishing ingredients will strip off the moisture from your skin leaving you vulnerable to dryness, cracking and/or flaking.
This is a big NO, NO in our business.
We stand against the use of palm oil or any derivative. This is our way to minimise the demand for palm oil. We have an ethical responsibility as a business and most importantly, as human beings, to protect the orangutan population.
Yes, of course – We follow the cold-process method for making our soaps all from scratch.
Our soap is the result of a chemical reaction called “saponification” which occurs when we mix our oils with the lye. All the lye – either sodium hydroxide for bar soap or potassium hydroxide for liquid soap – is consumed in the reaction therefore there is no active-lye left in the soap.
To further ensure the neutralisation of our soaps, we like to add more oil than required in our formulations mixture which results in an extra nourishing bar of soap too!
The bars that do not rely on lye rely solely upon synthetic detergents, surfactants that produce leather and are far away from being natural– these are your typical commercial bars which are very drying and harsh on the skin.
Another misconception is that some people think that by buying soap made by the “melt & pour method” then the soap is lye-free. Again, this is incorrect– all it means is that the pre-manufactured base was made by someone else mixing oils with lye (cold process method) and sold that way for an easier production. Not to mention, that you can never be exactly certain which ingredients they’ve used for the pre-made base!
Our soaps are free from parabens, sulphates (sodium lauryl/ laureth sulphate), artificial colours and mineral oils.
